Why does time seem to slip away so quickly?

Beep! The alarm clock blared. The sleepy man slowly went to check on his newborn son. As he quietly opened the door, he was shocked to discover that the crib was gone!

“Jason!” He screamed in confusion. From the corner of the room, he heard a quiet whisper, “Yes, Dad? Is everything okay?” Immediately, the man flicked on the lights and was surprised to see a small child sitting up from his bed.

“I don’t understand! How can you be so big? I swear you were still a little baby last time I saw you!”

Jason frowned and replied, “I am not a baby! Dad, I am five years old!”

“Oh, I am sorry son…I can’t seem to remember. Time seems to pass by so quickly…” mumbled the confused father.

Beep! The alarm clock sounded again the next morning. The man tumbled out of bed and briskly went to check on his son.

“Jason?!” whispered the apprehensive father. He was met with a low and annoyed groan that came from the ball of bed sheets. “What Dad? It’s 6AM! What do you want?” screamed the tall and scrawny teen.

“Jason, you were 5 years old yesterday. How in the world are you already a teen!?” blurted out the confused father.

“Go AWAY!! I am trying to sleep!” bellowed his son.

Beep! His alarm clock went off again. This time he ran to son’s room. He swung it wide open…. only to find it completely bare. “JASON! Where are you?!” he screamed. An old lady appeared at the door and sleepily said, “Sweetie… our son is already married and has moved away 40 years ago… please come back to bed.” As she gently shuffled away… he was left wondering… how does time seem to slip away so quickly?

Time is a strange phenomenon. It sometimes drags on at a snail’s pace, but can also whip by in a flash. When we are young, everyday is filled with multiple new experiences and milestones. Time seems to be stretched endlessly. But as soon as that novelty fades later in life and everyday becomes the same, time suddenly speeds up. The only way to slow it back down, is by opening our eyes to see everything around us as if it were our first-time once again.
